I can't seem to find the password, so I figured I would post my response here.

My favorite part of the exhibit was his map of the world on the floor in the room in the back. I loved the way that he cut up the world without cutting up the land and how it could still be folded into an almost globelike shape. I thought that was awesome. I also like the scale of the map on the floor because my foot was the same size of New Zealand. I just thought that was kind of funny.

Buckminster Fuller(1895-1983) was one of the most inovative thinkers of the twentieth century. He apllied his knowledge in an array of fields, mathematics, enginerring, environmental science, philosophy, architechture, and last but not least visual art. The whitney exhibit Buckminster fuller: Starting With The Universe displayed all of his major creations including his Geodesic dome, octet Truss, and his three wheeled Dymaxion cars. Eventhough fuller's inventions were asthetically pleasing, they proved to be extremely usefull(in the 20th and the 21th centuries). The ripple of his inventions had countless apllications in the modern world, even today. Lastly, fuller inspired my table design because he allowed me to envision the structure of my table. JD

I really liked this exhibit. I thought that his ideas were pretty wacky and fun and also pretty functional. I loved the Dymaxion Car because it was such a good idea and super adorable. He applied his knowledge of physics to create a vehicle that would use inertia to move it further rather than gas by making it heavier toward the front: a brilliant idea! I think we should put more of his thought process into designing modern day energy efficient vehicles.
I found it interesting that he was thinking about the environment and preserving energy even before the times when we became aware of these issues. he was doing for the sake of doing it, not because he had to which is very inspirational to me as a young architect.
go see the exhibit if you haven't!

The Buckminster Fuller exhibit at the Whitney was extremely intriguing. I had no expectations for the exhibit and even so, I was blown away. I thought Fuller's designs were interesting because they were unlike anything I had ever seen. Also, I was absolutely surprized that all of his work was about being economically and environmentally sufficent and this type of thinking was clearly way before his time.

One particular design that made me stop and study it for a long time was the homes that he designed that were configured around a central cylinder and went up from there. Also, I was intrigued at how simple and yet effective some of his designs were like the Dymaxion car. It really reminded me that sometimes in architecture when you are trying to design something, or you need to design something for a specific purpose, you do not always need to build something so complicated to get the job done. And last but not least, I liked the way Buckminster Fuller played around with shapes, especially cubes and triangles. I was especially amazed by a digital display of a cube that morphed into over 10 (maybe more) shapes. This also reminded me that design and architecture is simple and when you actually break down a shape or design its simply basic geometric shapes.
